The Ball will be located in the authentic Venice, in a 14th century Palace, Palazzo Pesaro Papafava, with its precious gothic facade & its elegant quadriform gothic windows overlooking the canal of the Misericordia. The palace will be illuminated entirely with candlelights to create a memorable atmosphere.
Colombina, famous in England and in France as Columbine, is certainly the most famous of the Commedia dell’Arte servants and probably one of the oldest masks. As early as 1530 the name figures in the Company of the Intronati, one of the most important troupes. Our venetian Colombina is the eternal lover of Harlequin, Arlechinno. Usually depicted as a wily, spiteful and malicious woman, insolent, chatterer, vane and sometimes brilliant, the comic servant loves to intrigue at somebody else’s expenses. Only woman to sometimes wear a mask on stage, Colombina will introduce the most extravagant parade of masks and costumes with sound & pictures and tell us the history of each of those masks, which presence is indeed constant in the venetian everyday life, as well as a subtile game.
